Before you decide, see how each option compares on the four things that matter.
A pioneer of laser refractive correction in Poland. For 20 years she worked with the Refractive Surgery Unit of the Ophthalmology Clinic in Katowice. She has authored scientific papers presented at international conferences. She specialises in procedures that change patients' quality of life, with results visible from the very next day.
If you have had enough of glasses or contact lenses but do not qualify for laser vision correction
(for example you are over 45 and have presbyopia) explore the other options:
Move the sliders to see whether your refractive error falls within the range of laser correction.
Key requirement: a refractive error stable for at least 12 months. Corneal thickness, pupil size and keratometry are assessed individually by the qualifying doctor.
Everything you need to know before the procedure: methods, qualification, the procedure itself and recovery.
Yes. It is one of the best-studied surgical procedures, performed worldwide for over 30 years. Thanks to the femtosecond laser used to create the corneal flap in FemtoLASIK, the risk of flap complications requiring intervention is below 0.5% (Stonecipher K., Medical Research Archives). Procedures at the Świat Oka Ophthalmology Center are performed by Ewa Lange, MD, PhD, with experience of over 25,000 operations, using the WaveLight® EX500 excimer laser with an eye-tracker system that follows eye movement and eliminates the risk of error.
A laser corrects the three basic refractive errors: myopia (up to approx. −12 dioptres), hyperopia (up to approx. +4 dioptres) and astigmatism (up to approx. 5 dioptres). The exact range depends on the thickness and shape of your cornea, which is assessed at the qualification visit. For people outside the laser range or with a cornea that is too thin, we offer an alternative: the ICL phakic lens.
The laser procedure itself takes 15–20 minutes for both eyes, of which the laser works on the cornea for only a dozen or so seconds. It is performed under local anaesthetic and is completely painless. In total you spend 2–3 hours at the clinic (preparation, procedure, first check-up). You can go home the same day.
Vision improves as early as the next day . Most patients see sharply within a few hours of the procedure. Full stabilisation of vision usually takes up to 3–6 months. During that time you may temporarily see halos around lights at night and feel dryness in your eyes, which resolve on their own or with lubricating drops.
Yes. It is a common but usually temporary effect that resolves within a few weeks to a few months. After FemtoLASIK it can be slightly more pronounced and sometimes lasts longer, because the procedure involves creating a corneal flap. In contrast, EBK, as a surface method, carries a lower risk of dry eye syndrome. We reduce that risk at the qualification stage by assessing your tear film before the procedure. After the procedure, lubricating eye drops prescribed by the doctor are standard and support recovery.
After FemtoLASIK: office work the very next day, light sport after 1–2 weeks, swimming after 4 weeks, contact sports after 4–6 weeks. After EBK: back to work after 3–7 days, light sport after 2–3 weeks, contact sports after 6–8 weeks. Exact timings are confirmed by the surgeon at your follow-up visit.
Laser vision correction is normally performed on both eyes to give the best quality of vision. In exceptional medical cases the procedure can be carried out on one eye only. The final decision is made by the doctor at the qualification visit.
Prices start from PLN 4,000 per eye for the EBK method and from PLN 5,000 per eye for FemtoLASIK. You can spread the payment over as many as 48 low instalments.
We provide a 2-year guarantee on laser vision correction. If the refractive result requires an adjustment within that period, any re-correction is included in the price of the procedure. Your doctor decides whether it is justified during a follow-up visit, after assessing the stability of your vision and the condition of your cornea.
The procedure is completely painless . We use a local anaesthetic in the form of eye drops. You may feel gentle pressure during the procedure, but no pain. After FemtoLASIK any discomfort passes within a few hours. After EBK the first 2–3 days can be less comfortable (burning, light sensitivity); we prescribe medication and drops that relieve these symptoms effectively.
Laser vision correction can be performed from the age of 18, provided your refractive error has been stable for at least a year. The best results are usually achieved in patients between 21 and 45. Ultimately, however, eligibility is determined by the results of detailed qualification tests.
Before deciding on laser vision correction, it is worth researching your choice of eye clinic carefully. Check whether previous patients leave positive reviews, and whether the clinic offers a friendly atmosphere and a caring approach from its medical staff. The experience of the surgeon performing the procedure also matters, as does whether they are open to conversation and answer all of your questions thoroughly.
Online reviews can be an additional source of information, as can talking to friends or family who have already had laser vision correction. Their experience can help you make an informed decision.
